The pets we know as “dogs” are not that genetically removed from their ancestors, the wolves. Scientists estimate that wolves either chose humans or humans chose to keep company with wolves around 130,000 years ago. But then there are coyotes, a species of canid that evolved separately from wolves, but are so common these days that people encounter them daily in some regions. This video looks at the similarities between the three well-known canid divisions, and mentions foxes as well.
